YOMIKO KOMOTO
2/26/23 – 2/6/15
Mom passed away on Feb 6, 2015 just days short of her 92nd birthday. She was born in Karuizawa, Nagano-ken in Japan. Her parents Isokichi Imai and Suino Kiuchi Imai always reminded her that she was born during the year of Japan’s greatest earthquake (at the time.) Mom survived the war years in Japan and took a job as a housekeeper for a US Navy family. She travelled to the US with the family when they returned after the war. Following a whirlwind tour of all the national parks in the western US, she settled in again as a housekeeper until she met a widower named George Komoto. George, our Dad, had three wild boys in desperate need of a mother and she accepted Dad’s proposal and challenge. They married in 1957 and we gained a Mom. Mom raised us and graced us as our Mom for the last 58 years. For a time, Mom worked at Oki Nursery where she learned about gardening, plants and propagation and at Marie Callender’s where she learned to make great pies. The gardening was passed on to us, but not the pie-making, just the pies. She was a great and faithful woman who raised, tamed and trained three wild stepchildren as if they were her own. We are who we are because of her. Thank you Mom! After 53 years of marriage, Dad passed away in 2010 and Mom has been patiently waiting to join him. Mom is survived by her three boys, Kenneth, Robert and William, grandson George, siblings in Japan, and a favorite niece, Mitsue Shibazaki. Thank you to Asian Community Services Nursing Home and staff for their care of Mom. They are the best. Private family services will be held followed by interment alongside Dad at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes.
