Walter Philip Krause's Obituary
Walter Phillip Krause, 91, died Monday May 1, 2017 while on an outing to the grocery store with friends from Brookdale Assisted Living facility.
Walter was born in San Diego, CA on July 16, 1925. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and served on the USS Grapple. He went to college at Washington State University, Pullman and Berkeley. He studied forestry and mathematics. He was stationed at several Forestry Division locations on the west coast, especially the Experimental Range between Fresno and Yosemite. He did general field work including building roads and trails, fighting forest fires including the Sugar Pine Blight (Rust), documenting and surveying. In the late 50’s, he was stationed at the Geological Survey on Elvas in Sacramento. He applied for and went to work for SMUD in its Land Management Division. His specialty was maps.
He is survived by his son Walter L., Walter’s wife Diane; son Robert, Ron’s wife Railene; and son James. Grandchildren: Scott, Stephanie, Brandy and Elaina. Great grandchildren: Tommy, Lela, Melody, River, Anthony and Xander.
