Roy was a class mate and a very dear friend of mine at Union High school in Monroeville Ala. Just by coincidence I Googled Roys name, I was thinking about contacting him since it had been a couple of years since our last correspondence, and his Obit came up. Surprised and sadden by the news of his passing. First off I would like to offer my sincere condolences to his family, extended family and friends who morn his passing.. I know Roy will be missed for he was a great guy and a fun guy to be around. You wouldn't know it to just see him , but once in his presence you felt the energy Roy radiated. Roy was a very witty, funny engaging person that anyone who got to know him would feel a connection that brought on a lasting friendship. We did corrospond about once every two or three years. I live in Indianapolis Indiana and he in sacramento so we didn't get around to physically interact. We hadn't seen each other since we both discharged from the Air Force in 1967. We didn't serve together in the AF just at the same time, He in the Puerto Rica and me in japan and Okinawa. However, we always discussed the possibility of getting together with some of our school mates for sort of a fun get together some day. That possibility is no more now with the passing of Roy. Yes, Roy could keep you laughing the whole time you talk. Roy had a way of telling a tale to make it funny and interesting. I use to get the biggest thrill from gabbing with Roy and I was always some what puzzled by how he was such a different person when talking to him than the person we went to class with every day. I guess it's because when it came to work, Roy had this serious side that was totally different , he focused on the matter at hand and would not be sidetracked. I will miss Roy , I feel the loss of a dear friend. Though we were many miles apart I always felt we were friends in heart. I will miss you Roy , your journey should be easy because you gave so many good feelings and leaves us with A lasting memory. What I remember about Uncle Roy was he had a special way of making anybody laugh that was around him by his facial expression that he would make. You knew that he was going to say or do something funny next and unexpected. He was fun to be around when he came home to visit his family in Mobile. Uncle Roy would always make his Famous Cheesecake while he was visiting. Uncle Roy and Aunt Mary would be sitting at the kitchen table working on crossword puzzle for hours. Once they take a break from the cross word puzzle my mother would sneak and hide it from them because that was her way of getting them to do something else, she knew that they would sit there for hours, wouldn't do anything else for the rest of the day until it was completed . When I would call to check on Uncle Roy, he would always be on the GO and he would always tell me that I caught him at the right time because he would just be getting back from a one of his work trips. Once again, GOD has summons one of our love ones on a journey to come home with him where you are now peacefully resting. While my mother (Ella Charzene) was in the hospital, after she went on to be with our Lord and I was going through my grieving. I will never forget that Uncle Roy would call to check on me periodically and little did I know that he was dealing with his own health issues but always made time to talk to me. He would listen to me, share his opinion, and always add alittle humor too. I'm going to miss our talks. I will always remember the encouraging words that you shared with me and all of the special family memories. You will never be forgotten because of the life you live. I Love You !!! Thing I remember the most about Uncle Roy is that he had some sticky finger when it came to my dad's things. When he would leave Mobile, He would actually call my dad and tell him what he took when he got back to Sacramento. Dad would go and look and immediately start cursing. I found that so funny. I will miss you Unc. Love you.

I had the fortunate chance in life to be close to Roy. He was like a father to me. He taught me so much. To be my own man to get out there and make things happen for yourself. Roy was a VERY big influence in my pursuit of my music dreams. He believed in us, in me, and for your all the life lessons I will always love you Roy!

Roy, I really miss you. Even though we had discussed that the day would come when we would no longer be, it didn't occur to me that I might be the one to have to let go and so soon. I didn't understand that it would be so hard. You were my cousin, the best of friends, my seat-mate on the school bus, my mentor, my math tutor, my protector from the bullies, and my junior prom date when it became apparent that my prospective escort was not going to show up. How did you have the time and patience for me and my problems and the inclination to be so kind? From the time I remember knowing who you were until the end, we just seemed to think alike and be on the same wave length. That was a unique experiece for me. What would I have done and how would I have made it through those high school years without you? I wish that I had done a better job of letting you know what you meant to me and I wish that I could have been there for you during your illness. I sincerely hope that you knew in your heart how I felt. You may be gone in a physical sense but you will always be with me in spirit. I first met Roy in about 1981. I was working as a mechanic at a service station near his home. He came in driving his Monte Carlo, with his family, he was having some problem with his car. I told him he needed a tune-up, so he returned later to have me do the work. In that short span of a couple hours we talked and laughed while he was there and Roy and I had been good friends ever since. Whenever we spoke we joked and laughed. No matter what the situation when I left I always felt up beat. The thing I will always remember about Roy is the names he used, "His Stories" for soap operas, how every person he talked about was family, He must have had a hundred Aunts, Uncles, and Grandmas. It took me awhile to realize his use of the words were different than I had previously thought. I counted Roy as one of my longest running friends and feel truly fortunate to have had the chance to know him and call him a good friend. I will sincerely miss Roy. My thoughts and prayers go out to his sons and family.Richard McConnell

Roy was always pleasant and a great guy to deal with. He was quick to laugh at my jokes and always had a smile in his voice. Roy was a real people's person. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered. His State Fam ins agent, Tim Kwong.

Roy and I met about 20 years ago when we both worked for American Residential Mortgage – he was a staff appraiser, and I was hired as a "temp" to assist the staff appraisers. We immediately "clicked" and became very fast friends. When he met my husband at a work function, they also became very quick best friends. Roy and I decided to branch out on our own and became "partners" in our own appraisal business. He became my "second husband" or "third child", depending on the day and/or circumstances. Most of the time, he and my husband fussed at each other like an old married couple – they drove me crazy! He was fun and funny, hard-working, honest, generous, gentle, and frequently exasperating (that's where the "third child" comes in!). But I loved this man as not only my business partner, but as a best friend and confidante. During the dark times with my husband's health issues, Roy would spend countless hours at the hospital, refusing to leave Jerry's (Drone's) side. We have always literally trusted him with our lives – he would not leave my side when we got into a car accident. Although the sight of blood would make him faint, he held my hand in the emergency room as I got stitches. We have been through so much together over the years (loss of loved ones, marriages, grandchildren, etc.) and our lives have been so enriched because he was in it. Our loss and grief is deep – he is so missed. But I find comfort knowing that he is once again with his beloved "Precious", carrying her for her daily "walks" so her feet won't get dirty ?? Rest in peace, dear one – I love and miss you.Ms. Daisy
