Darla Campbell
Elna Rae Roblyer would like to share this poem she wrote for her brother's 90th Bday. When I was a lad of about thirteen,I rode the train to San Jose.We brought our cattle to roam and gleanWhen I was a lad of about thirteen. With drought in Wyoming there was no hay.So we went to California .We looked after the cattle day by dayThere wasn't much time to romp and play. The years went by and Pearl Harbor cameSo I mustered up and became a Marine,And served my country proud and true. When I came home afte the war, I wanted to cowboy like before,So I saddled my horse, jitterbug was her nameShe never brought me riches or fame.I'd eat my eggs and coffee brew, feed the cattle and mind the stew.I'd take my old stub dog wherever I went, where rodeo was the big event,At roping I would try my skill, the wind a blowing a whipper will.At evening when the sun went down, sometimes I'd mosey into town.I've hunted in Wyoiming, fished in Canada,I've sailed the mighty ocean, and seen ole Mexico,The Islands in the pacific to the Alaskan shoreBut old CALIFORNIA , who could ask for more.!!
