Marion Irene Jorgensen's Obituary
After a wonderful life, Marion Irene Jorgensen peacefully entered heaven on
Monday, February 22, 2021 at the age of 95. Marion was born on March 29,
1925 in Sacramento, the youngest of eight children to George and Alice Slight.
Marion grew up in Pleasant Grove in Sutter County, and helped her family
survive the Great Depression. This time period instilled in her a love of family
dinners and gatherings.
Through friends and family, she met a handsome young man from Elverta
named Fred Jorgensen and he became the love of her life. Fred and Marion
were married on July 11, 1942 in Reno, NV, beginning a marriage that was to last
over 58 years. She helped with the bookkeeping for Fred’s Automotive Service
in Sacramento and kept busy raising four children. Much of Marion’s life was
spent in service at the Elverta United Methodist Church (UMC). She taught
Sunday School, was the president of the United Methodist Women, and was a
delegate to many UMC annual conferences.
Marion loved to cook and bake, famous for her baked beans and apple pies at
family gatherings. She vacationed in Santa Cruz almost every summer since
World War II, making the annual family trip even at age 94!
Marion’s greatest pride and joy was her family. Phone calls and visits from her
grandchildren were one of the highlights of her life. She was well known for her
words of wisdom, encouragement and support. She could always be counted
on to finance ice cream cone treats, delight in beautiful flowers, and enjoy a
warm spot in front of the fireplace. She was the epitome of a wonderful wife,
mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend. She was unwavering in her faith
and it defined the way she lived her life.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband Fred on May 22, 2001. She is
survived by her daughters Barbara Willett of Lincoln and her sons: Jon and Paul;
Marilyn Bates (Jimmy) of Fair Oaks and their daughter Lisa; sons Fred of Moreno
Valley and his children: Stephanie (Nick), Rachel, Eliott (Natalie); Warren (Tresa)
of Rocklin and their children: Roseann (Brent), Isaac, and Alora.
Due to Covid, a private celebration of life will be held. Please honor her by
visiting the Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes website and sharing a favorite
memory with us.
Gifts in Marion’s honor can be mailed to the Elverta UMC, P.O. Box 126, Elverta, California 95626
