Manuel L. Echavarria's Obituary
MANUEL “ MANNY” de LEON ECHAVARRIA, age 80, peacefully passed
away on Friday, October 21, 2016 at his home in Sacramento surrounded
by his family. Manuel was born in the Philippines to Dalisay San Pedro
and Dr. Marciano Echavarria. Manuel married Juanita Tayag of Alabang
in 1967 and they have four daughters. The family immigrated to the
United States in 1990 and made Sacramento their home.
Manny loved taking road trips with the family, listening to classical music,
gardening, reading, basketball and making his family laugh. He was his
wife’s best friend and his daughters’ friend and confidante, basketball
coach, art teacher and driving instructor. Known for his basketball
coaching style, he coached several local basketball teams in his old
hometown of Alabang.
Manny was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. He
leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Juanita, daughters April (Rick Bates),
Ivy (John Hallum), Rachelle (Clarinda Collado), Frances (Erick Rasmussen)
and grandchildren: Haden, Scout, Liam and Ian; two sisters; in laws who
loved him as their own brother; nieces and nephews from the US and the
Philippines, and numerous friends and relatives.
Manny will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather;
a brother, an uncle, Coach, Mang Manny, and a generous soul who was
a friend to everyone.
Manny’s family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 8pm on
Thursday, October 27th at the Chapel of the Chimes in Sacramento, CA,
and again, at the chapel on Friday, October 28 at 10am for his memorial
service.
The Echavarria family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for
the support and love of relatives and friends as well as the staff at
Sutter Medical Center, specifically his vascular surgeon, Dr. Thomas
Park and his primary physician, Dr. Raymundo Ortega, for their
attentiveness and loving care.
