I had the pleasure to meet and speak with Hershal Skidmore a few times during my tenure as a Senior Accountant at the City of Garden Grove. Hershal had retired already but he was a visitor at City Hall.

I saw and appreciated his meticulous attention to detail. He was very knowledgeable with the City's Finance PICK System and I consider Garden Grove one of the best run Finance Departments throughout my career due to the legacy Hershal left.

Hershal's legacy continues to endure. The Chart of Accounts Financial Accounting structure he left at Garden Grove influenced the design of the Chart of Accounts structure at the City I'm currently at.

In remembrance of a remarkable leader and mentor.
As my first supervisor in local government, he welcomed me with humor. When I first started, I wonder why the work load was so demanding, having heard that government roles were supposed to be less stressful. Jokingly he said that I should have sought a position at the federal level.
Hershal generously shared his knowledge, experience, and time with others. He nurtured my curiosity and consistently encouraged my pursuit of learning and growth. His legacy continues to inspire dedication to public service and community betterment in those he mentored.
