Leon Fergerson, a beloved soul with a heart of gold, passed away peacefully in Sacramento, California, on July 25, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on February 5, 1938, Leon lived a life full of warmth, generosity, and spirited adventure.
Leon was known for his open-hearted nature and unwavering kindness. He touched the lives of everyone he met with his gentle demeanor and genuine compassion. Whether lending a helping hand or sharing a laugh, Leon made the world a better place simply by being in it.
A proud alumnus of Grant Union High School, Leon was a gifted athlete who ran track with passion and determination. His love for sports extended throughout his life—he was an avid bowler, a devoted basketball fan, and always up for a friendly competition. His enthusiasm for the outdoors was equally strong; he found joy in trout fishing, camping under the stars, and cherished trips to Hawaii that brought him peace and happiness.
Leon had a special place in his heart for animals, especially feral cats, whom he cared for with tenderness and dedication. His love for country music filled his days with melody and meaning, often serving as the soundtrack to his many adventures and quiet moments alike.
Above all, Leon adored his family. He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews, and his presence was a source of strength and joy to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Evelyn, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
Leon’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit, generosity, and zest for life will never be forgotten.
He is survived by two sisters, Barbara & Ken Overton, Glenda & Bill Wilbourn and family is Rio Linda, and the Berg family.
A celebration of Leon’s life will be held in Sacramento, where family and friends will gather to honor the remarkable man he was and the beautiful memories he leaves behind.
