Agatha Mary Lee Huddleston's Obituary
Agatha Mary Lee Huddleston nee Dillon, known to all as Del, was born on July 5th 1935 in Roanoke, Virginia. She was the second born of seven children to Eva May Cunningham and John Lee Dillon. Growing up, Del frequently traveled with her Uncle Willie and her brothers and sisters, instilling in her a sense of adventure and a desire to experience all that life had to offer her.
After graduating from Lucy Addison High School in 1952, she relocated to New York City and attended Manhattan State Hospital to pursue a degree in Nursing. Del completed her studies in 1955 and had planned to relocate to Los Angeles, California but fell in love with San Francisco along the way and decided to stay. There, she put in many years working at various hospitals across San Francisco including Mount Zion, US Public Health, and French Hospital (now known as Kaiser). In addition to working as a nurse, Del also worked on NASA’s research team at US Public Health where she would study bone density loss in astronauts. She would retain a lifelong interest in research, even continuing to contribute later in her life.
While working at Mount Zion Hospital she met Anthony (Tony) Huddleston and they married in 1965. Together they had 2 sons: Anthony William (Amin) Huddleston and Albert Frank
Huddleston(Muhammad).
Del retired as a nurse in 1994 and relocated to Sacramento. She turned her love of thrifting into a business venture, opening up a store with her daughter-in-law Anna Diaz. In her golden years she enjoyed traveling, being involved with her church, spending time with her friends and family, and spoiling her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Del is preceded in death by her parents: Eva May Cunningham and John Lee Dillon, her sisters: Sylvia Dyer and Eva Marie Johnson, and her brother John Marshal Dillon.
Del leaves behind her siblings Dorothy Craig, Jacqueline Miller and Warren Dillon. She also leaves behind her sons: Amin Huddleston (Rabiaa Kalyati) and Albert Muhammad (Catherine Muhammad), her grandchildren: Aminah,Yusuf, Azraa, Arshad, Aryssa, Alesha and 7 great grandchildren: Cataleya, Armani, Yurellie, Messiah, Zuri, Wooda, and Anara. She also leaves behind many family and friends.
Del will forever be remembered for her resourcefulness, her caring and giving spirit, and all of the love that she gave to everyone she knew. Everywhere she went she was always quick to make lifelong companions with her friendly nature, warm smile, and her open heart. Her family will always remember the sacrifices she made to give her family all that life had to offer.
