Wojciech Chwilka's Obituary
Wojciech Chwilka passed away peacefully in his home on January 16, 2024. Wojciech was born on January 2, 1950 to Zygmund and Kazimiera Chwilka. He grew up in Lubon, Poland and particularly enjoyed spending time in the Polish countryside. He graduated Politechnik University with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. In 1977 he left Poland and emigrated to Paris, France, with his best friend, and his fiancé, in search of a better life. In France he applied, and was granted a visa in 1978 to the United States of America where he then settled in California. He married his fiancé, Urszula Borowska, and had two children. Though the marriage did not last, he remained in his daughters’ lives. He is survived by his daughters Agnieszka Chwilka and Natalia Haumschilt. Throughout his life he strived for personal and career advancement, working as a computer engineer for Failure Analysis Associates and later as an independent contractor for IBM specializing in Lotus Notes. The work with IBM led to his move to Vermont. He enjoyed several years in Vermont and later in New Hampshire with his girlfriend Wanda Corbett. He ultimately returned, and spent the remainder of his life in Sacramento, California. Wojciech loved adventure, skiing, traveling and exploring new places. Although in the end, his health led him to a more solitary lifestyle, he still maintained a positive, forward thinking belief system about the future. He enjoyed reading about climate change, technology, and enjoyed writing about various engineering projects and personal beliefs. His enthusiasm about changes to come, his pioneering and adventurous spirit, innovative ideas, intellect and generosity towards those closest to him will be dearly missed.
