William George Schoenberg's Obituary
SCHOENBERG, WILLIAM G. passed away 12/4/2002 in Sacramento, Ca. Born 9/28/1917 in Chicago, Ill. to Roy Thomas and Clara Grace Schoenberg. His last 14 years he was a resident of Caliente, Nevada, prior to that a Southern California resident where he sailed as a Merchant Seaman out of the Sailors Union of the Pacific, San Francisco, Ca. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Margaret and her husband Buster Crane, grandson Kenneth D. Hall and wife Ruth Peif/Schoenberg. He is survived by a daughter Carol L Hall and son, Dale L Lynn, grandchildren Dennis, Deborah, James Hall, and Dian Thomas, great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Josh, Adam,Ryan,Jessica,Zachary,Allyson,& Melissa and 3 great-great grandchildren. He is a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans & VFW, past commander of the Caliente post. Bill was an Army Air Corp veteran of WWII, having served in the American Theater, European African Middle Eastern Asiatic Pacific Theater, holder of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart and many campaign medals. Discharged on 11/30/45. After operating his own florist business, in Antioch, Ca. joined the Merchant Marines and sailed Matson Lines,APL and all other West Coast Shipping firms before retiring in 1979 in Fountain Valley, Ca. He moved to Caliente, Nevada to be with is Sister when she became a widow and needed assistance, stayed on to live a very quite life in a small town of friendly people. He came to Sacramento to visit his daughter and receive Medical attention at the Reno VA Hospital. And Mather VA Clinic He will be missed by all who got to know him. He was an avid Bottle Collector and made many friends all over the world who shared his enthusiasm for collecting. It was his wish that no ceremony be held, that his ashes be interned in the ocean outside of the Golden Gate. This will be accomplished by the Sailors Union per prior arrangements after December 13, 2002. There will be a Celebration of His Life, at the home of his daughter Carol, all family and friends are invited to attend on December 12, 2002 at 3:00p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes.
