Vickie Dougherty's Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that I must write this obituary due to the recent passing of my mother, Vickie Howell - Dougherty.
She passed away Wednesday July 19, 2023, in Rio Linda CA. The lord decided it was her time to go so he gathered her in his loving arms, she knew the lord and I know in my heart she is now safe and out of pain, she has been reunited in heaven with her dad Curt, the love of her life Richard and her sisters Charlene and Melinda.
She was born January 24, 1954, in Eureka CA, later moving to Santa Rosa and last to Rio Linda CA, born to William Curtis Howell & Betty S Stanfield, she was one of six children, Curt and Bettys first child together. She married the love of her life, Richard Dougherty on December 30, 1978. She leaves behind her mother Betty, an older brother Wayne, a younger sister Terri, and youngest brother Gary, myself Linda, her daughter, my husband Tony, our children Nickolas, and Randall, and stepchildren through marriage.
I have such fond memories of her, she was a wonderful mother, and grandmother.
She made the best pies, her pie crust should have won award ribbons, when I was little and live in Santa Rosa, she would ask me to go pick berries so she could make us a homemade pie, she enjoyed cooking and loved to tend her garden, her yard always looked amazing, yellow roses were her favorite. She loved the holidays, she always decorated for Christmas, and we would go tree hunting every year, I will never forget the 20ft tree, it was so beautiful.
Papa Curt would always say when he saw her coming, “look out here comes trouble”.
She loved the family reunions, lots of food and baseball.
She impacted many family members in a positive way, and I know all of you will remember her kind heart, her infectious laugh, her vibrant personality and how she always put family first.
I came across this poem and it beautifully describes my feelings for her, I will forever miss her…
If Roses Grow in Heaven
By Dolores M. Garcia
If roses grow in heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my Mother’s arms
and tell her they’re from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there’s an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
