Sandra Lee Nelson's Obituary
Sandra Lee Hensley-Nelson was born in Sacramento, California in 1962. She passed away in Rio Linda, California on November 6, 2013. Sandra grew up in Rio Linda California, attended Rio Linda High School, where she had many friends, was a star athlete on her softball teams, and was a thriving student. She graduated a year early with the class of 1979.
Sandra, or often called “Sandy”, was a loving and faithful wife to the man of her dreams, Darrell Nelson. She was a devoted and loving mother to daughter Lisa Nelson-Escobar and son-in-law Timothy Escobar. She was sister to Diane Richey and Jimmy Hensley. More importantly she was the doting “Nana” to beloved grandson, Dominic Escobar.
Sandy was preceded in death by her Maternal grandfather Alfred Steen, Maternal grandmother Bessie Steen, Father Jim Hensley, Mother Aldena Hensley, Best Friend Karen Russell, and Nephew Clinton Webber. Her legacy shall be passed on through all that loved her.
Sandy spent most of her time with her family and friends. She loved meeting new people, hosting parties, playing golf with her husband and friends, bike rides, helping out at Dominic’s school and taking her special dog “Buddy” for long walks.
When diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2007, she already knew she was going to fight the fight of her life. After all the hard work was done, she decided to live life to the fullest.
Sandy and Darrell traveled all over the United States. Her favorite of all places was Kauai Hawaii. She spent many happy days with her loved ones there on that Island. She never wanted to leave that peaceful, beautiful place.
Upon her long battle, she had many exciting events take place in life. One was the birth of her beloved first grandson, Dominic Alexander Gabriel Escobar. She immediately fell in love. From then on her life revolved around that one little boy. Another milestone in life she was elated to see and be a part of, was seeing her daughter get married. She took a lot of time, pride and love to help her make her daughter’s wedding a very special day. And that it was.
Though Sandy had many up’s and down’s health wise, she managed to bless us all with her love, knowledge, wisdom, and that unforgettable smile.
Services to be held November 16, 2013 at 11:00 am at Capitol Free Will Baptist Church, 6201 Watt Ave, North Highlands, CA 95660.
