Russell Gordon Smith's Obituary
Russell Gordon Smith entered into rest on March 9, 2021, in Rio Linda California at the age of 69. Russell was born on August 2, 1951, in Auburn California to Betty Josephine Smith & James Charles (JC) Smith. Russell was raised in Rio Linda, and is survived by his sisters; Linda Reid, Becky Flower, Terry Turner, Bertha Lou Lannopolio, and Tracy Criswell, along with his brothers; Randy, Roger, and Allan Smith. He is preceded in death by his sister Ruth Lawrence and brother James Smith. He leaves behind his loving family: wife of 50 years, Priscilla Smith, daughter Deanna and son-in-law Chris Wilkes, son Russell Smith and daughter-in-law Crystal; along with 7 grandchildren, Ryan and Marissa Wilkes, Alexis, Elaina, Ava, Holly, and Vivian Smith.
In the summer of 1969, Russell met his wife Priscilla Marie Tisdale. He graduated from Rio Linda High School in 1970. From early on, Russell was a hard worker and worked multiple jobs. On January 29, 1971, Russell & Priscilla married. Shortly thereafter, Russell was drafted into the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany and served 2 years. Upon his return home, Russell worked at John Taylor Fertilizer for several years, while also attending American River College. Russell and Priscilla purchased their first home in Rio Linda, California. Pursuing his dreams they built a home on 5 acres in 1979 and Russell was able to build the shop he had always wanted.
When Russell was growing up, he would help his dad work on vehicles. In the 1980s, Russell worked as a diesel mechanic for a well-respected fleet maintenance company called, Petroleum Tank Line. While working there, he noticed a need for fleet maintenance mobile repair so customers could receive the same service and quality they would have received in a shop. In 1987, Russell started his own business called, American Mobile Equipment Service, and was one of the first to provide complete fleet maintenance mobile repair in Northern California. One of the many services Russell provided was going to various hospitals to service mobile CT and MRI scanners. He provided excellent service for the next 33 years, while also enjoying classic cars and spending time with his family and friends.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to a viewing between 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701 Marysville Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95838
