Rosa Mae Haney's Obituary
Rosa Mae Haney
Rosa Haney was born in Broken Bow, Oklahoma on July 28th, 1943 to Jake and Rosa Walker. Rosa was the youngest of 13 children, Frank, Willie, Eddie, Louida, Pearl, Christell, Eldora, Jake Jr., Clara, Ardis, Jyles, and Joe.
Rosa was a true native of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, where she spent her childhood and high school years. Rosa was a student/athlete at Dunbar High School, where she was an elite member of the girls’ basketball team. In 1961, Rosa graduated from Dunbar High School.
In 1963, Rosa met the love of her life, and faithful husband, Henry Louis Haney, and they were blessed in Holy Matrimony on February 15, 1964. They were blessed in in marriage for 51 years. Through their union, Rosa and Henry were also blessed with two daughters, Sheila and LaShawn Haney, and one granddaughter Brittany Shine. The Haney family moved to Sacramento, California, in 1965. In Sacramento, Rosa served her community, and was always concerned about the well-being of God’s children. She worked as a caregiver for 15 years, and was a childcare provider for several young children as well.
Rosa Haney was a very special sports advocate, but enjoyed family time mostly. She spent many days of cooking, playing cards and dominoes with family and friends, where she was Queen. She opened the doors to all those who would come and fellowship at the Haney household. Rosa was a gifted athlete and passed her basketball skills down to Sheila, LaShawn, and Brittany, who excelled in the sport, including playing professional basketball overseas.
Though Rosa enjoyed many aspects, and experiences of life, her greatest love was the Lord. Rosa accepted Jesus Christ at an early age, and was able to unite her greatest love with Colbert Chapel in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. After moving to Sacramento, California, she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Rosa later became a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she faithfully served the Lord for 27 years. She was a member of the choir, a deaconess, on the mother board, and faithfully served as the President of the Pastor’s Aide Committee. Not only was her beloved husband Henry a faithful servant, but her entire family became members of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, in which Rosa was most proud.
Rosa leaves to cherish her fond memories, daughters Sheila and LaShawn Haney, granddaughter Brittany Shine, two sisters, Louida Gilliam, Clara Mack, (Vince), and one brother Ardis, with a host of relatives and friends. Rosa Mae Haney was a true spiritual blessing to all those she touched.
