Robert Wayne Thompson's Obituary
Robert Wayne Thompson was born on March 1, 1957 to Mr. Robert Wayne Thompson, Sr. and Maude (Banks) Thompson. He was the sibling of 3 sisters and 1 brother. With his special sense of humor he was known to many as “Wayne”. Although he as born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. At the age of 10 his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Earl Washington sent for him to live in California.
Robert accepted Christ in his early teen years and shortly after joined Macedonia under the leadership of Pastor Cummings and later Pastor Varnado and was baptized and served faithfully. Later he joined Mt. Olive under the leadership of Pastor Washington with his family.
Robert attended Las Palmas Jr. High School and then attended Grant Union High School (Go Pacers), where he interacted in many sports, such as basketball, track and his favorite football. On the field Robert and Stanley McNeal were inseparable. They were legends at Grant High School and put Grant at the top of the charts in 1975. Robert went on to Utah Sate where he played for a season.
Robert met the love of his life Darlene Powell in 1973 at Grant High School. It was love at first sight. In his heart he would say “Let’s Get It On”, which later lead to their marriage of 40 years and 8 children (well, I think they did get it on).
Robert worked very hard before he was disabled. He worked for Greyhound Bus Station, Aramark, Mason Paint Company, and Relocatables (where they build portables for the schools) just to name a few. Hw also coached Grant Jr. Pee Wee. But his Favorite Team Was “Dallas”.
Robert was very real and straight forward in whatever he had to say, not ever biting his tongue. He loved his children deeply and would tell them and anyone else the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Robert will be missed but never forgotten. We loved him but God loved him the best.
Robert Wayne was proceeded in death by his father Robert Sr., Mother Maude Thompson, his sisters, Mary Washington and Diane Carter. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 40 years Darlene Thompson, sister Beck Hawkins (Louisiana). His daughters, Katrina Katresh, Katoria, Kateesha and Katharene. His sons, Robert Jr., Brandon, Rodney and Ronald. Twenty-four grandchildren, the olderst Brianna McCall, and the youngest Noah Washington, five great grandchildren, Father-in-law, Mack Powell, Nieces; Alice Washington, Yolanda Hawkins (just to name a few), a host of nephews, cousins, three son-in-laws and many friends.
