Raymond Desmond Courter's Obituary
Ray Courter, 87, died very peacefully at home with his wife on August 7, 2024.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 14th, 2024, at
10:00AM at Sunset Lawn, 4701 Marysville Blvd., Sacramento, California.
As a friend of Linda and Ray’s for over 40 years I am grateful to be able to write
this obituary for him. Ray was a passionate man who loved all animals, and
always had a special place in his heart and his home for dogs and cats. He
passionately loved football, but especially the San Francisco 49ers. He also
loved baseball and his San Francisco Giants. His loyalty to those teams
comes from the fact that Ray was born in San Francisco on July 9, 1937. He
joined the army at 18, in 1955, during the Korean War.
Ray moved to Sacramento in 1959 and had a long and successful career in the
auto parts and transportation industries. He worked for Allen Transportation,
Cirsco Clutch & Brake, J & M Auto Parts, and Valley Ring and Rebore. As an
entrepreneur he bought Northside Auto Parts. He closed his career working at
the California Franchise Tax Board where his beloved wife worked.
I am absolutely sure that Ray would say, and probably did say many times,
that his greatest love and his greatest success was meeting and marrying the
love of his life, Linda. It takes quite a man to love, honor, cherish, and truly
care for his wife for 38 years. And Ray was quite a man.
Survived by son-in-law, Alan Winans, granddaughter, Sheree, and great grandsons,
Desmond and Kash.
It grieved Ray that he was preceded in death by his children Christopher Robin
Courter, Julie Diane Courter Winans, and Michael Robert Courter.
He was so blessed by, and grateful for, his closest and dearest friends Kathleen Cronin, Joe
Fahlgren, Leo Nebbia, Eric Sonniksen, and Gary Usilton.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Ray's name to the SPCA.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 10:00 am at SUNSET LAWN CHAPEL OF THE CHIMES MEMORIAL PARK, 4701 Marysville Blvd. Sacramento CA 95838
