Paul John Zmuda's Obituary
Major (Retired) Paul John Zmuda of Fair Oaks, age 76, passed away on 8 April 2015 with his family by his side. He was born in Dousman, Wisconsin in 1938. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Zmuda and Pearl Krzyzanwski. He is survived by his wife (of 53 years) Wanda, his two sons Elijah and Michael, his grandchildren Sarai, Nathanael, Naomi and Jalynn, and his sister Esther Como. He served in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1978, where he earned the Air Force Cross and retired at the rank of Major. He met his wife Wanda in Sacramento while attending navigator school at Mather AFB. Paul served three tours in Vietnam, while his family lived in Japan for 4 ½ years. He was highly decorated for his bravery and heroism. He returned from Japan to Rancho Cordova with his wife and two sons where he earned his MBA from Golden State University. After military retirement, he became Vice President of Pension Services until he retired in 2008. He was a Catholic Christian who worked hard and enjoyed making people laugh. He never missed an event for his children during their school years and enjoyed hunting and fishing with them throughout his life. A viewing will be held from 4pm to 8pm Tuesday, 14 April 2013, at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home, located at 4701 Marysville Blvd., Sacramento, California. Flowers may be sent by 2 pm on Tuesday to the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul’s name to Priests for Life or the Wounded Warrior program. A mass will be held on Wednesday, 15 April at Our Lady of the Assumption, 5057 Cottage Way, Carmichael, at 11 am, followed by a procession to the National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, just west of Davis.
