Paul Jack Palmbaum
Paul was born on June 1, 1933 in Massachusetts and passed away on December 14, 2019 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Katherine.
He has three children, Bruce Palmbaum and wife Dawn, Glenn Palmbaum and wife Laura, Karen Claassen and husband Forrest. Paul and Katherine have 3 beautiful grandchildren Ryan Palmbaum, Margaret Cosby and Ana-Katina Palmbaum.
Paul was President of the East Bay Psychiatric Assn where he wrote a column for over 20 years called “Views From Under the Couch” where he shared with his readers his thoughts about all aspects of psychiatric practice including his very personal adjustments to retirement and end of life concerns. In an early column, he noted that Freud was known for his “ruthless honesty and willingness to share his deepest perceptions…” These are traits that Dr. Palmbaum shared with Dr. Freud.
Paul graduated medical school from Tufts University in Massachusetts and then served in the Army achieving the rank of Major. After completing his military service Paul started a private psychiatric practice in Walnut Creek, California where he worked and lived for over 50 years.
