Paul McIntyre's Obituary
It is with great sadness and profound regret that we announce the passing of Paul McIntyre, 57, of Sacramento, CA. He tragically lost his life on February 28, 2020, during a horrific violence incident at his workplace in Carmichael, CA. Born on September 21, 1962, Paul was the beloved son of David and Sylvia McIntyre.
Paul McIntyre will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and son. Left to mourn his untimely departure are his cherished wife, Barbara McIntyre, his sons Dominic (Anissa Kolda) Ferlo and Hunter McIntyre, his sister Susan (Steve Williams) Taaje-Williams, as well as his brothers Ross McIntyre and Stuart (Monica) McIntyre. While Paul's mother, Sylvia McIntyre, survived him, she lamentably passed away on September 19, 2022. His father, David McIntyre, preceded him in death on June 1, 2017.
Throughout his life, Paul McIntyre exemplified gentleness and strength, making a profound impact on those around him. He took immense pride in his role as an advocate for the blind, actively engaging with legislators on both the state and federal levels. His leadership roles within the National Federation of the Blind, local amateur radio clubs, and various student government organizations at the local community college and community college district further demonstrated his unwavering commitment. In addition, he played an active role as a parent, dedicating his time and energy to the betterment of his sons' education at their respective schools. Furthermore, Paul played an instrumental role as a founding member of the Hagginwood Community Association, almost two decades ago.
Paul's desire to serve and make a difference in the lives of individuals recovering from substance abuse and mental illness motivated him to pursue a career in social work. It was at his place of employment, while fulfilling his passion, that he tragically fell victim to a knife massacre. This shocking incident resulted in severe injuries to two colleagues, and the loss of two others, including our beloved Paul.
Undoubtedly, Paul McIntyre was a beacon of bravery and perseverance. He always maintained that blindness, while an inconvenience, was by no means a tragedy. He firmly believed that he could accomplish anything, with the sole exception of reading print and driving, which he was certain would soon be within his reach. Paul's expansive circle of friends, extending beyond even his immediate family's knowledge, attests to his warm and engaging nature. His unwavering love for government and leadership permeated every aspect of his profoundly fulfilling life, leaving an indelible mark on all those he encountered. Indeed, those whom he served at his place of employment frequently drew inspiration from his example, proclaiming, "If Paul can do it, then so can I."
Due to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and family trauma after the homicide, the memorial service for Paul McIntyre was delayed. Now, we will honor his memory as we celebrate Paul's birthday on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, located at 4701 Marysville BL, Sacramento. The commemorative event will commence at 1:00 pm and conclude at 4:30 pm. All are welcome at the chapel, graveside ceremony with seating, and indoor/outdoor reception with refreshments. Flowers are gratefully accepted as a token of remembrance.
As we bid farewell to a remarkable individual whose life was tragically cut short, let us come together in grief and support one another during this difficult time. Paul McIntyre's legacy will forever remain etched in our hearts and minds, inspiring us to embrace each day with the same unwavering determination and compassion that defined his remarkable existence.
