Paul Lanyi
It is sad to note that I am just now learning of my Buddy Paul's passing, nearly 4 months ago. We were both big fans of KFAT Radio in Gilroy., later KHIP, and then KPIG, out of Watsonville. I first encountered Paul at the Gilroy Garlic Festival back in 1979 or 1980, because he was wearing his KFAT T-Shirt with the Big Fat Image on the front. We began to write one another and share tapes of all the great, obscure music we loved that you couldn't hear anywhere else. We would meet at The Garlic Festival each year after that and continued a cordial relationship. In recent years, we would communicate less often, but we were still like brothers, sharing our worlds. I chanced across a copy of a letter I had written to him over a year ago. In it, I noticed I had transposed 2 numbers of my new phone number, and I wanted to phone him so he would have the correct number. Today, March 30, 2020, I phoned. Sadly . . it was his son who answered . . letting me know Paul had passed in October. Many Good Times Together Buddy . . Rest In Peace . . !
