Nancy Lorraine Venable's Obituary
Nancy Defoor Venable, a retired Human Resources Specialist for the State of California and a resident of Penn Valley, CA, passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2021 at the age of 64.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, David Venable. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Suzanne DeFoor, daughter Amanda Garceau (Jack), grandchildren James and Avery, son Scott (Megan), and grandchildren Lucas, Layla, and Sloan. She also leaves behind nieces, nephews, in-laws and a tight-knit extended family, a great group of golfing ladies known as “The Piggies of Lake Wildwood”, and countless friends that she loved to share time with.
Nancy was born September 17, 1956 to Golden and Emma DeFoor. She was a 1975 graduate of Washington Union High School in West Sacramento. She made a career with the State of California before retiring in late 2016.
More than anything else, Nancy loved to have a great time. Her love of music spanned from Boz Skaggs to the Beatles and everything in between. She was known to talk a little trash while playing card games on camping trips, ready to compete with anyone that wanted to show off their best fastball, or just sitting around with a cocktail talking about hilarious memories. She was an avid golfer, following in the footsteps of her father and later passed the game on to her son. She was a member of the Lake Wildwood Golf Association, golfing two days a week including numerous tournaments with her closest friends. She loved the game of softball and made sure to share the value of the sport to her daughter and her friends as they grew up. In later years she became the biggest fan of her grandchildren as they participated in various sports, plays, or simply watching a movie with them or teaching them a secret recipe in the kitchen. Nancy’s most redeeming quality was making those around her feel like family. Her free-spirit, warm heart, compassion, and electric personality are going to missed beyond measure.
