Mose Holland's Obituary
Mose Allen Holland April 25, 1919 ' June 13, 2006 Mose Allen Holland was born in Brundidge,Alabamaon April 25, 1919, to Daniel and Mary Lee Holland. He was the eighth of nine children born to this union. As a young man, Mose moved to Mobile, Alabama where he entered the Army and served in World War II. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Mobile, where he met and married Mary Elizabeth Chestang on April 9, 1955. InMobile, Mose was employed as a truck driver at Brookley Air Force Base. The family attended Metropolitan A.M.E. Church where he served as a Class Leader. In June of 1967, the family moved toSacramento, Californiawhere he worked at McClellan Air Force Base until his retirement in 1976. They became members ofAllenChapelA.M.E.Church. At Allen Chapel, Mose served as a member of the Steward Board, Pro Tem of the Steward Board and Class Leader. He sang with the Chancel Choir, Sons of Allen, Voices of Allen and the Men of Praise. Mose served diligently as a leader of the Visitation Ministry to the sick and shut-in. He was a devoted member of the Sunday School department. Although Mose was a very talented man, who used his gifts to serve his family and church, he is best known for his love of fishing and love for prayer. He was also an avid San Francisco Giants baseball fan. Mose was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Mary Lee Holland; beloved son, Marvin; brothers, Archie, Grant, and Daniel Holland; and sisters, Tallie Dumas, Louise Flowers and Ann Shipman. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth; daughter, Thelda Harris; grandsons, Terry Boyd, Desmond Isom (Shannon), and Toussaint White (Irene); sisters, Wyvies Gadsden and Mary Alice Brown; 5 great grand-children; beloved aunt and uncle Morris and Dorthy Chestang; 2 adopted sons, John Lee Coleman and Herbert Belt, 1 adopted daughter Tammy Rios; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. Mose will be sorely missed by his family and all who loved him.
