Oh Monte, I’ve been trying to find you for years now. You weren’t on Facebook, but I did find 1 of your nephews. Talked to him, he said no one had seen you. You liked to live like a hermit. I placed an ad on Craigslist in Oroville or in a town close by. Need help trying to find a long lost friend. No one contacted me.
The best memories of my life I had with you. When you kidnapped me and took me to Vegas in the middle of the night. That was fun. Then when I took you home to Oroville and you showed me around the town, the dam, the salmon hatchery, camping and gold panning off the Feather River. I still have that black crystal gem. I met your parents and their little antique shop next to their house. I came back to visit you and your mom watched me walk in between your truck and the car and when I brushed up against your truck, I must have had the strangest look on my face when I looked at her and said, ”this is house paint, on his truck.” Your mom couldn’t stop laughing after she said yes.
After I got divorced, I called you and you were ready to get on the next flight to WA state. I’ve regretted all these years saying no to you. I guess I figured since you didn’t have a stable job, how were you going to take care of me and a brand new baby girl. (Katie graduates from Law School & gets married May 2026). I never let you try. I’m sorry. That was 2000. I lost track of you then, until I found you got a DUI in a town near Sacramento. I figured you were unhappy with your life and I was hoping to find you, but sadly I came up empty, until I typed your first, middle and last name in my phone and found you had died a few days after my birthday last year and my heart sank. I forget we all grow old. That’s why we all need to live each day to its fullest because we don’t know if we’ll see tomorrow. Sleep soundly. I miss you with an empty heart Monte. Love Patty
