Monica Bernadine Lueras' Obituary
Monica “Moe” Lueras
10/29/57 – 03/09/18
Monica “Moe” Lueras was born in Sacramento, California on October 29, 1957. Monica passed away peacefully on March 9, 2018 surrounded by her family at 60 years young. Preceded in death by her beloved parents Dolores and Paul Lueras, and her cherished Uncle Richard Estrada. She is survived by her 8 siblings: Patrick (Madelyn), Sylvia, Andrew (Karleen), Larry (Dee), Loretta (John), Pauline (Robert), Mike (Betty), Christina (Frank) and many respected nieces and nephews. Monica worked for CALPERS and retired after 26 years of state service. Monica was much like her mother with her profound love of outdoors. She often enjoyed taking care of her yard; her passion for gardening would regularly produce an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables that she shared with family and neighbors. She canned beets, jalapeños, and tomatoes as a result of her brilliant gardening. Monica was a single woman whom never married or had children, but treated her nieces and nephews like they were her own repeatedly spoiling them with junk food, fishing trips, sporting events, spontaneous outings, and her famous sleep overs. Monica enjoyed the holidays, especially the tradition of making tamales with her sisters that created memories they all cherish dearly. Christmas with Monica was magical, she spent her hard-earned money spoiling her nieces and nephews that brought a collection of joy and happiness to each child. Christmas, the season for caring, giving, kindness, loving, and sharing was the spirit Monica had year-around. She always helped those in need and was extremely generous with her time without expecting anything in return. In earlier years, Monica served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Church and would take Communion to the sick. Monica was a woman of two sides; one as a devoted Catholic, and the other as “DJ Moe”. Monica’s profound love for old-school contributed to the legendary DJ Moe. DJ Moe was the DJ for most family parties and her hypnotic groovy style would get the crowd to boogie every time. The magic that Christmas brings seems to never die, and Monica’s legacy will never die as she left an imprint in our hearts forever. We will forever cherish Monica’s warm embraces and generosity of spirit. She will be greatly missed by family, friends, and neighbors. Another Angel has gotten her wings and has been sent to fly into the arms of God where those who have passed before her are awaiting and anticipating her arrival into Heaven. Heaven has gained another Angel.
