May R. Voyles' Obituary
MAY R. VOYLES born Lela May Rogers on May 1, 1917 in Ardmore, OK, died peacefully in her home in Sacramento on April 20, 2012 at the age of 94. May is survived by her daughter Faye Dell Ouber. She is preceded in death by her son Harold F. Bowling and her siblings Marie, Eloise, Wanda, and Bud. May left Oklahoma for the riches of California in 1935 and worked the fields in Tulare before settling in Sacramento in 1940. She worked at McClellan Air Force base during WWII. She began working for Campbell Soup in 1945 where she was a proud employee and union member. She retired in 1980 after 35 years and attended countless work and retirement celebrations over the years. May was fiercely independent, a lifelong Democrat and proud to be from Oklahoma. She loved country music and spent many Saturday evenings dancing with her sweetheart at the Detour Inn. May cherished her friends and spent her free time writing poetry and reading romance novels. She touched many throughout her life and will be missed. Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701 Marysville Blvd., on Friday, May 4th, at 10:00 A.M.
