Marjorie Ann Danley's Obituary
Marjorie Danley, 91, passed on March 23, 2012 in Carmichael, California. She believed her longevity was due to eating salsa nearly every day. Salsa often created from fresh grown vegetables in her garden.Ã? Born Marjorie Ann Showers "on the prairie" in Elk River, CA, in Nov. 1920, she was the only girl to Merle and Lloyd Showers. At the age of eight, she left the rustic lifestyle of Northern CA., with her mother and younger brother Bob (older brother Bill stayed with their father), for San Francisco where later her youngest brother Joseph Shasky (her lambie-pie) was born and still lives with his wife Diane.Ã? On May 27, 1937, she was among the first to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge, one day before it opened to motor vehicles. This was thrilling. She recalled school letting out just for the occasion. She would later share, the best the thing about the big city was indoor plumbing and electricity. Ã? Working as a telephone operator for a short time after graduating from Mission High School and before marrying and starting a family, she had thought of becoming a nurse, but, Marjorie was a homemaker and took great pride in caring for her family.Ã? Eloping on New Year’s Eve 1939, Bernon Jackson "BJ" the brother of her best friend Margareet, they were married for fifty-six years; when first meeting him, she described him as a brat. During his retirement they traveled the U.S. together in their 5th wheel trailer, making new friends along the way and living out the winter months in the warmer climates of Arizona. Ã? Always wanting to be a mother, she was blessed with four children; Gary Danley (deceased), Robert Danley of San Leandro, CA., Patricia 'Danley' and David Bonti of Orangevale, CA., and Richard and Tiffany Danley of Dove Canyon, CA. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband BJ and son Gary. Ã? A loving grandmother to Teresa Danley, Lisa Ketchum, Allen Danley, Jeffrey Danley, Tom Danley, Leanne Joynes, Tara Chavez, Alexa LangonaÃ? and Lori Langona. Dear great-grandmother to Krystyne, Alex, Alia, Robert, Ryan, Madi, CJ, and Kyleigh and wonderful sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend.Ã? Living all over Northern and Southern California; she loved to camp, play cards games (Scrabble, Bingo, and Aggravation), go out to eat (Mexican and Chinese food) and to the movies. She is known to her family and friends (and even a kind stranger or two) for her excellent cooking, baking, canning, gardening, sewing, beautiful crocheting (for nearly 70 years), knitting, and ceramics (for 25 years with Joyce and friends at the Robertson Center). Marjorie couldn't wait to awake to decide what to make that day and who to give it to.Ã? Dinners each Sunday at nanny and papas were always special with her famous chicken and dumplings, potato and macaroni salad, and baked delights. She enjoyed her many pets (additions to the family) but, what Marjorie loved most in life was spending time with her family; hugging and kissing them as she greeted each. Ã? Some of her favorite memories were crabbing with her daddy, picking and canning with her mother, swimming with her brothers, and Square dancing nearly every Saturday evening with her husband at a local hot spot. Ã? Loving, kind, thoughtful, and generous, Marjorie was a friend to all. Later in years, she enjoyed her friends, both the residents and dining hall staff, at the Winding Commons Senior Apartments. She achieved success here because she appreciated the small things, laughed often, and loved deeply. She touched the hearts and lives of the many whose paths she crossed with her exuberant cheery personality. Always ready to reach a hand out to those in need, she loved life and never met a stranger.Ã? Our family invites you to share with us in the celebration of her life held this Saturday March 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701 Marysville Boulevard, Sacramento, CA. Ã? In lieu of flowers, the family requests you give to one of Marjorie's favorite charities Veterans with Disabilities or the World Wildlife Fund.
