Leroy Haynes' Obituary
LEROY HAYNES
Leroy was born to the late Spragen and Dora Haynes on July 14, 1936 in Doloroso, Mississippi and passed on July 14, 2013, peacefully at home. He was the third child of six.
In 1955, he graduated from Johnson High School in Woodville. Mississippi. In high school he was a member of the glee club and an outstanding football player. In fact, his coach always said 'if you get the ball to Leroy, you can call the touchdown because he is too fast to catch.' Upon graduation, Leroy moved to Sacramento California. Shortly thereafter he was drafted into the United States Army and was discharged in March, 1961. He then served four years in the Army Reserves and received an Honorable, February 28, 1965.
Leroy worked for the Bercut Richards Cannery Company until it went out of business. Upon its closure, he took his retirement and went into partnership with his cousin Albert Rogers, better known as Junior Rogers, in the Salvage Wrecking Yard business.
He met and married Varrie Burse on October 8, 1966, where he gained an extended family of three sons. Leroy loved to fish and he was a happy'go-lucky type of guy who were loved by many. He was kind hearted and generous, the kind of person who would give you the shirt of his back.
Leroy united with the Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Barry J. Smith in 2005 and faithfully attended until his recent illness.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 47 Years Varrie Haynes; three sons, John Henry (Gloria), Charles (Constance) and Dewayne (Gail) Burse; 1 daughter, LaTonya Haynes; nine grandchildren, Gloria, LaShanda, John Henry III, Dewayne Jr. (Amy), Sequoia, and Nicholas Burse, Elesia Morrison (Eric), Cash Lynn Murray (Lucretia), and Wilbert Lewis Benoit (Karen); three brothers, Frank Scott, Alvin Haynes (Peggy) and Sidney Haynes of Mississippi; two sisters Lue Bertha Barnes of Chicago, IL, and Mary (Mae) Cooper. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
