Lawrence Andrew Zandona's Obituary
Obituary for Lawrence Andrew Zandona
Lawrence Andrew Zandona, born October 12, 1946, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2026, surrounded by the family he cherished above all else. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, Larry built his life around love, faithfulness, and the simple joys of life.
Larry’s love for his wife of 48 years, was one of the defining constants of his life. He bought her flowers -small, thoughtful gestures that spoke volumes. Larry loved to joke around and had a strong personality. He was a character and you never knew what you were going to get but for some reason, you kept coming back. Together they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the kind of steady affection that anchored their family through generations.
Larry was an incredibly strong man and when cancer took his lung, that strength was manifested in his determination not to allow his illness to stop him from living. He fought bravely for 15 years; never complaining, never feeling sorry for himself, but accepted whatever new challenge came. His wife and family are very proud of Larry's perseverance.
He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, where he found peace on the water; playing cards, especially gin rummy, cribbage, and solitaire; and settling in to play his tablet or watch his favorite TV shows. Music always brought enjoyment to him; especially the sounds of the 1950s and 1960’s, and liked Elvis Presley and country western music.
Larry's career centered around construction and was a tile contractor and business owner for at least 40 years. He took pride in his work and brought an artistic talent to his craft creating many beautiful and lasting works.
Above all, Larry loved children—his own, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. He was proud of their accomplishments and delighted in their curiosity, their love, their laughter and the chance to watch them grow. His presence was steady, gentle, and full of affection, and his family will forever feel his love.
Larry loved all sport but especially football and was loyal to the San Francisco 49ers his entire life. To know Larry was to know a man whose love for dogs was ever-present. If there was a dog close by, Larry would find his way to say hello.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio Zandona, Sr. and Mary Teresa Rose Riberdy, and his brother, Kenneth Zandona, and sister, Theresa Rose Allen. Larry is lovingly remembered by wife, Joy Joan Zandona and his sons, Joshua John Gonzales and Eric Abram Zandona; his cherished grandchildren, Mercedes Marie Gonzales, Alexis Renee Gonzales,
Xavier Gilbert Gonzales, Giorgio Salvatore Zandona, Elio Valentino Zandona; great-grandchildren, Giovanni Joseph Grelle, Santino Angelo Grelle, and Evalina Marie Grelle; his siblings Antonio Zandona, Jr. and Darlene Zandona; his sister-in-law, Eve Hamilton; his daughters-in-law Felicia Romero Gonzales and Tia Vaan Shaw Zandona; his nieces Terri Wenger, June Zandona, Jenny Zandona, and Laticia Santiago; his nephew Kevin Zandona; grand-niece Alex Monrean.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Larry’s life on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes. Memorial services will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the internment and reception.
Larry leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and unwavering commitment. His family will remember him not only for the life he lived, but for the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
