Lawrence Clarence Tucker's Obituary
Lawrence C. Tucker (Larry) was born in Gibson Station, Oklahoma on July 30, 1930 to parents Albert and Emma Tucker (both preceded him in death). He was the youngest of 10 siblings.
Larry attended Manual Training High School, Muskogee, Oklahoma, graduating in 1949. He went on to enlist in the Air Force in June 1949. Larry transferred to Castle AFB in 1951 where he met his lovely wife Margie Lee Brice at a basket ball game. She wanted to watch the game and he wanted to watch her.
Larry confessed the Lord Jesus Christ at a very young age. He rededicated his life in 1971 and became a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Larry was one of the founding fathers of New Testament Baptist Church (NTBC). The first meeting to organize NTBC was held at his home in 1973 where he was the recorder and secretary of that meeting. The man loved handling business. He was Chairman of the first Board of Directors. He was Chairman of the Trustee Board for 23 years. Under his leadership two New Testament Churches at different locations were paid off and the church was able to have two Mortgage burning celebrations. Under his direction the church was able to purchase land across the street from the location where the church is today. Larry believed God called him to become a deacon and was ordained January 12, 1997. As a deacon he served as a devotional leader and a family deacon to many families. He loved to sing. He was a director of the men’s chorus and a member of choir number 1. He was the Go-To man to everything and for everyone because New Testament knew they can depend on him.
Larry’s career started with the Air Force in 1949. He had stops in Castle AFB, March AFB in Riverside, Travis AFB in 1957 where his son Clifton was born. He was then transferred to England where his daughter Loray was born. Larry continued to Little Rock AFB, Earnest Harmon AFB in New Foundland and lastly at Beal AFB from which he retired in 1969. Larry moved the family to North Highlands CA in June 1970 where they decided this was the last move. He began working for the US Postal Service from 1969-1990. After retirement he began his volunteer services which included Meals on Wheels, Senior Gleaners and was involved in mission food and clothes giveaways. The last real job was a hiker at Hertz Rental car (he wanted to drive all the new cars). After he retired from Hertz, he decided his next job would have hours from 12:00 – 1:00 with a 1-hour break for lunch and he was going to sleep to 10:30 every morning.
Larry departed peacefully on Saturday January 25, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings (John, Ralph, Odell, Martin, Ernest, Laureena, Mary, and Elzora) and daughter Barbara Jean Dixon. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 66 years, Margie Tucker (North Highlands CA), two children Clifton Tucker and Loray Shelton, six grand children Clifton Tucker Jr (Kera), Nakisha McMindes (D.J.), Nathaniel Tucker, Margie Tucker-Burnquist (Doug), Tamarah Clark, Sharnay Messick (Richard), two sister-in-laws Gertrude Dunn, Arthia (Ruth) Adkins, one brother-in-law, George Brice (Elouise), three nieces Arzella Paris, Edna Porter, Kintha Speed, six great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a loving church family and lots of friends.
