With heavy hearts, the family of Jose Cruz Rodriguez Sr. announces his passing on May 20, 2026, at the age of 73.
Born on September 11, 1952, in El Paso, Texas, Jose was the beloved son of Enrique and Elvira Rodriguez. He carried with him throughout his life a deep love for family, hard work, sports, music, and friendship.
In 1976, Jose graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication. Over the years, he dedicated himself to many roles through his work with the United States Postal Service, the State of California, The Sacramento Bee, and Target warehouse operations. No matter where he worked, Jose was known for his strong work ethic, resilience, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Jose found joy in life’s simple yet meaningful moments. He loved playing and listening to music, cheering on his favorite teams — especially the San Francisco Giants, New England Patriots, and the Sacramento Kings — and, above all, spending time with his family and friends. His laughter, stories, vibrant personality, and warm presence created countless cherished memories for everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Elvira Rodriguez, and his brother, Ernesto Rodriguez.
Jose is lovingly remembered by his children, Jose Cruz Rodriguez Jr., Suzette Olsen, Daniel Rodriguez, Andres Rodriguez, David Rodriguez, and Sylvia Rodriguez; his cherished grandchildren, Aryanna Araiza, Alexander Araiza, Angelina Araiza, Nevaeh Rodriguez, Nicolas Olsen, Isabela Olsen, Andres Rodriguez Jr., and Olivia Rodriguez; his former wife, Emilia Ramos Rodriguez; his daughters-in-law, Lydia Rodriguez and Rachel Martin; his siblings, Enrique Rodriguez Jr., Esteban Rodriguez, Carmen Rodriguez, Eduardo Rodriguez, Eva Rodriguez, Elena Van Gelder, Emilio Rodriguez, and Elias Rodriguez; and his cousins, Angel Rodriguez and Jesus Rodriguez.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Jose’s life on June 8, 2026, at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes. Memorial services will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Details for the reception will be available at the event.
Jose will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
