Jose S. Bravo
1928-2013
Colfax area native Jose “Joe” S. Bravo died July 27, 2013 after a short illness in Fair Oaks. Mr. Bravo, 84, was reared in local schools and graduated from Placer High School in 1948. He was a member of the
U.S. Army where he was a decorated tank commander in the Korean conflict. And he was honored for being a member of the Colfax American Legion for 60 years.
Joe retired from the Southern Pacific in 1988. He was also a Colfax city police officer and a reserve officer with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department.
Joe was active in sports where he played football and baseball at Placer High and was a member of the 1949 Placer College championship baseball team which was inducted into the Sierra College Hall of Fame in 2007.
Joe also played baseball, softball and basketball for the Colfax American Legion Fireballs. In 1981, he was a charter member of the Nevada County Softball Association Hall of Fame and in 1986 he was inducted into the Colfax Labor Day Tournament Hall of Fame. He was also an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland A’s.
Mr. Bravo is survived by his wife Christene of Carmichael; son Craig Calder (Bertha) of Baker, Oregon; step children Peter Prichard ( Linda) of Grass Valley; Lauraine Vannoy (Bill) of Rescue; Jim Fendley of Colorado; Jeff Fendley (Brenda) of New Hamshire; Trudy Fendley of Colorado. He is also survived by sisters Maria Weber of Colfax and Veeda Ray of Sacramento. And many grand and great grand children and nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Pedro and Juana Bravo and brothers Octavio and Silvano.
