Johnny Montalbo Martinez's Obituary
Johnny Montalbo Martinez, 89, of Sacramento, California died February 14, 2024 in the
presence of his friend and caregiver Matthew Harding and his wife Colleen Harding.
He was born June 23, 1934 in San Antonio, Texas to Guadalupe Martinez and Guadalupe
Montalvo.
Immediately following high school, Johnny entered the U.S. Army and was sent to
Korea as an infantryman, Promoted to squad leader of Company B of the 65th
Infantry Division, which went by the nickname, “The Borinqueneers,” Johnny served in this unit
during the infamous “battle of Jackson Heights” he was wounded when a tank he was following
ran over a landmine. After the military Johnny enrolled in a pre-med program in San Antonio but
withdrew because of hardship. He moved to Sacramento where he worked at Macy’s and
eventually retired as a General Manager. He was a member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars,
post 1267, and the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 255,and was often invited to speak at lodges
throughout California.
Johnny was preceded in death by his partner Robert Langenfeld and is survived by his three
children Johnny Michael, Donna Sue and Doris Diane and numerous grandchildren.
The service will be held February 29th, 2024 at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701
