Hammitt, John C.In Sacramento, John C. Hammitt passed away on February 26, 2012 at the age of 67. Born October 10, 1944 in Sacramento and graduated from Grant Union High School in 1962. Survived by his wife of 49 years, Marion; sons Douglas, John, Jr., and Michael; Mother Mary (Betty) Hammitt; siblings Charlene, Marlene (Bob Hendrix) and Bill (Henrietta Jordan); grandchildren Hailey, Victoria, Joshua and Bailey. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Charlie M. Hammitt, Sr., and brother Charlie M. Hammitt, Jr.A member of the Salvation Army, Natl. Assn. of Postmasters of the US (NAPUS), Hwy.49 and Hwy.50 Wagon Train Assn, and the Lion’s Club. After 32 years in the US Postal Service, John retired in 1996 as Postmaster of Galt, CA.During his career he served as Pres. of the CA Chapter of Napus and Natl. Secretary-Treasurer of NAPUS. We will miss John’s warmth and friendship, his joking, and his famous bbqs. He was a loving husband. father and Poppy who will be missed by family and friends.Viewing will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012, from 4-8pm. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 both at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701 Marysville Blvd, Sacramento.
