John graduated from Grant Union high school, the Class of 1974. He spent his early adult years with friends and family at the Roseville Speedway, either watching the races, being part of a pit crew or driving car #8 in the bomber division. He also enjoyed bowling and participated in softball games on occasion. He loved to spend time with his sister and his large extended family at Family gatherings at Discovery Park and attending annual Christmas Eve dinners.
John found his passion for cooking and creating menus later in life. First, when he was introduced to cooking while serving others when he volunteered at the Gospel Union Mission. It was here that he gained confidence in himself and in his ability to run a kitchen. When looking for a new career to continue his love of cooking, he was fortunate to find a position at Twin Peaks restaurant, where he not only could continue his career, but he made many lasting friendships over his many years while working there.
As a child, he faithfully attended the Valley View Acres Freewill Baptist church with his family. In his later life, his faith in God was restored and he began regular attendance at Bayside Church in Roseville. With his faith intact, he left this life with newfound hope and knowledge that he would once again meet his loved ones in Heaven.
