Joe W. Lamar's Obituary
Joe W. Lamar was born on December 31, 1953 in Georgia and passed away on July 20, 2021 in Sacramento CA. A private Graveside Service will be held at Sunset Lawn Memorial Park 4700 Marysville Blvd. Sacramento CA 95838.
Joe Willis Lamar was born on December 31, 1953 to Mr. William Lamar and Mrs. Fannie Solomon Lamar in the rural town of Haddock, Georgia.
Joe spent the early years of his childhood traveling between Haddock and Detroit, Michigan. Eventually, Detroit became his permanent home. He was raised there by his beloved grandmother, Cora Solomon, and two aunts, Lizzie Mae and Henrietta Solomon. Joe attended Northern High School and then Michigan State University. He then worked for the IBM Corporation before enlisting in the United States Air Force. Joe earned an Honorable Discharge from service in 1979. After the Military, Joe worked for the Federal Government until his retirement in 2005.
Anyone that knew Joe knew that he loved cooking, singing, and working on his lawn. Every weekend, our house was filled with Motown classics and the delicious aroma of his food. He had a beautiful voice and everyone told Joe that he should've been a member of one of those Motown singing groups. When not in the house singing or cooking, Joe was outside maintaining his immaculate lawn. It was the talk of the neighborhood. Children were never allowed to play on his front lawn. If Joe caught kids playing around on his lawn, he would always turn the sprinklers on them. Joe also had an infectious sense of humor; a joker. There was absolutely no one off limits from his smack-talk.
The Military brought Joe to Sacramento, CA in 1978, where he met his lifelong partner, Isomia(Icy). The two were soon married and shared a life together for 43 years. This union was blessed with two biological children, Brandi Foster (Lamar) and Branden Lamar of Sacramento; and one goddaughter, Zakiah Dovala(Trice) of Conroe, TX.
Joe was summoned home by our Lord on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. He is preceded in death by his mother, Fannie Lamar; his father, William Lamar; his brothers Theodore and Marvin Lamar; his sister Sandra Lamar (Thomas) from Haddock, GA; his grandmother, Cora Solomon, two aunts, Lizzie Mae and Henrietta Solomon.
Joe is survived by his wife, Isomia Lamar; his children, Brandi Foster(LV), Branden Lamar, and Zakiah Dovala: his loving sister, Joyce Lamar and Aunt Geneva William in Haddock GA, his beloved mother-in-law Jessie Hilliard and father-in-law Kermit Walker, his dear granddaughter, Naima Foster; very special grandkids in his heart, Essence and Avery Foster, Zadrea Hawkins, Zakari and Zayden Kimple, Zaniya and Zeferino Dovala, two loyal brothers-in-law, Daryl Smith and Tolliferro Smith, his very special cousins, Neomia Solomon and Darnell Sanford in Detroit MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
