Joan Viola Meiborg's Obituary
Joan Viola Crawford Meiborg, born 16 January, 1931 to Ella Gertrude West and James Henry Crawford in Hopkinton, Rhode Island passed away surrounded by loved ones on 20 April, 2017 in Roseville, California at 86 years of age. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ray Keith Meiborg and one brother, Douglas James Crawford. She is survived by her brother, Thomas Brian Shugrue, her two daughters: Jodie Rae Newton and Sherrie Diane Meiborg, her granddaughter Donielle Elaina (Bebo) Holden, and 4 great grandchildren: Samuel Joseph Holden, Jonas Henry Holden, Soraya Sophie Holden, and Jack Silas Holden.
Over the years Joan worked in the Campbell’s Soup factory in Sacramento and as an elevator operator at the Sacramento Capitol building, but she devoted her life to being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother not only to her own family, but to friends that she “adopted” along the way and counted as her own children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling and saw much of the country with her husband, Ray, by RV, and in their younger days, by motorcycle. She was always up for an adventure and remained active until her aging body no longer allowed her to. We will all miss her welcoming, nurturing way, and the excitement she had for whatever her loved ones were pursuing.
Services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, April 28th at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes in Sacramento. There will be an open house to follow at her daughter, Sherrie’s, in Galt. All are very welcome to attend.
