Her family moved to San Louis Obispo, CA when she was 4 years old. Later they moved to Richmond, CA where she went to Jr. High School and worked in her parents Grocery Store and Cafe.
Jimmie met her husband, Ernest (Bud) Walker in Winters, CA at the age of 16. They married in Ely, NV on May 13, 1950. Bud entered the Air Force and was stationed at March Air Force Base when they had two daughters, Debra and Sheryll.
The family moved to Sacramento where Jimmie opened her own restaurant, Jimmie’s Cafe on Roseville Road/Watt Ave. Big Jim and Babe Patton frequented the restaurant and started bringing the North Highlands youth group after church. Babe arranged for Sister Carrie Jones to start picking Debra and Sheryll up for Sunday School and that led to Jimmie and Bud accepting the Lord. They became members of North Highlands Assembly of God church under Pastor Glen Parks.
In 1961 their third daughter, Annette, was born and Jimmie decided to sell the restaurant to stay home with her girls. She became very active in church, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, church treasure, and cooking for various church events. She served under Pastor’s Howard May and Gene Fields.
In May of 1963 Bud was seriously injured on the job, he was in the hospital 6 months and required many surgeries to rebuild his lower legs. Jimmie went to work selling Stanley Home Products and quickly became a top performer. She kept things going until Bud was able to go back to work.
Jimmie never met a stranger, she and Bud invited Service men from McClellan over for Sunday dinners and hosted many social events at their home in North Highlands. She continued selling Stanley and expanded her sales career into other areas. She was licensed to sell Mobile Homes and decided to open her own Mobile Home Resale Company, Sunset Mobile Home Sales. She ran a successful resale business for 11 years.
The Walker’s started attending Neighborhood Bible Church where they continued serving in various capacities. Supporting Missionaries, sponsoring kids for church camp, and giving to needy families. Their current church home is Trinity Life Center
In 1991 Bud and Jimmie retired and spent up to 6 months a year in Yuma, AZ where they participated in many music jams and church services. Jimmie liked to sing and help with the annual fundraising event the music group put on.
Through good and bad, Jimmie has always trusted in the Lord and put her faith in Jesus. She loved her family unconditionally, as well as everyone she came in contact with. The lives she impacted with her faith and generosity are immeasurable. She will be truly missed.
New Living Translation: 2 Corinthians 5:8
Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.
