To Jean Meyer: Belated condolences in the loss of your brother, Jim. I only met him once at my brother's home in Sacramento. Frank (Wilson) and Jim were friends for many years and after Frank's first stroke, Jim would check in with him frequently. My brother had a series of strokes beginning in 2012 and after the second major one in Nov. 2013, he moved to an assisted living facility in Yreka, CA (nr the OR border) to be near me. In Jan 2014 he moved to the CalVet Home in Redding. He also suffered from dementia. He died on August 11, 2016. I remember enjoying talking with Jim about Alaska where he had lived and worked. Frank's and my grandfather had spent many years there as a prospector and trapper. He left Seattle in 1914 with gold fever and didn't come back until 1945. (Leaving my grandmother with Dad, age 10, and Uncle Jim, age 3. She divorced him in in 1928, unusual for those days. At any rate, I recall that chat with Jim and was impressed with his kindness to Frank, his caring and goodness. You were blessed to have him as your brother.Sister to sister, I share your loss. Jim was a great friend of mining and the Alaska Miners Association of which I was Executive Director from 1989-2011. He called often to get an update on what was happening in Alaska. His energy level was always an inspiration and he always had new old stories that I did not know about. Jim was President of the AMA before my tenure at a time when the industry was often struggling. I worked with Jim at the U.S. EPA for about 10 years, and kept in touch with him after that. He was a kind and generous person and I am richer for having known him. We talked about going to Alaska together and I know it would have been a great time. He always signed off a phone conversation with "see you further down the trail." I worked with Jim at GeoServices Corporation in Maryland. I came to respect him as a coworker and consider him a dear friend. Jim's first words to me each day at work and each phone conversation after he moved are from scripture – This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. I rejoice with Jim that he is at peace. I'll always remember his kind, positive and generous nature.

I have known, respected, and loved Jim for almost 20 years. I live in Florida but visited with Jim at Christmas time last year. My prayers and thanks go to Jim and his family and especially to his sister, Jean Meyer, who has done so much for Jim over the past many months. I spoke to Jim on the phone the afternoon of the day he died. Yes, his last few months were hard, but I am thankful to know that he is in a better place now; and his pain is gone and his thinking no longer disturbed.Bill Glatz15 April 2015

Jim died peacefully sitting in his wheel chair Monday evening about 7 o'clock. He knew he needed care 24/7 and his strokes frustrated his thinking. As his little sister I have and always will love him but it was a blessing he is no longer suffering. His 202 cell phone is still active and his Sacramento address is still good. jm

Every time I saw Jim he always had a smile on his face and a great attitude. What I remember the most is that he was always so kind to me. He will be missed. Rest in Peace Jim.
