Jack Lyle Powell's Obituary
Jack Powell (aka Fast Jack), 79 of Elverta, California passed away peacefully on July 27, 2021
surrounded by his loving family. He bravely battled pancreatic cancer for almost a year. Jack
grew up in Del Paso Heights and was an avid car enthusiast. He graduated from Grant High
School in 1960. He met his wife Gena in Massachusetts while serving in the Army and married
her before leaving for Vietnam. They were married for 56 years. He retired from the
Sacramento County Water District after 40+ years. He loved hot rods and driving fast.
He was the father of 4 daughters, a proud grandpa of 12 and great grandpa of 2. He is survived
by his wife Gena, his aunt Helen Schindler, his sisters Shirley Reynolds and Patty Harp, his
favorite daughter Mary Green, favorite daughter Cindy Mulvaney and her husband Tom, favorite
daughter Sally Simmons and her husband Rick, and favorite daughter Dyan Young and her
husband Aaron as well as his grandchildren Josh Ames, Jake Ames and his wife Starla, Katie
Bell, Jessica Reynosa and her husband Frank, Sarah Green, Glen Simmons, Tyler Mulvaney,
Joseph Bell and his wife Kayla, Matthew Mulvaney, Kylie Mulvaney, Sammi Green and Judah
Young as well as his great grandchildren Lucy Ames and his namesake Jack Ames. He will
forever be in our hearts.
His grandsons Josh, Jake, Glen, Tyler, Joey, Matt and Judah will serve as his pallbearers/pit crew
to his final resting place. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 2 PM to 5PM
and the funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 1PM at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the
Chimes, 4701 Marysville Boulevard, Sacramento CA 9583. A celebration of his life will follow
at the Legion Hall, 6700 8th Street, Rio Linda.
