Helen Marie Schindler's Obituary
Helen Marie (Bruno) Schindler
1929-2022
Helen was born in Turtle Lake, North Dakota in 1929. She lived on her family’s farm until her mother moved to Lodi, California when she was in elementary school. She graduated from Tokay High School and San Jose State University.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Herman and sisters Evelyn and Rose and brothers Harold and Frank. She and Herman were happily married for more than 55 years. She worked as a lab technician at Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame before retiring to Newcastle with Herman to become “mini-ranchers” in 1986. Helen enjoyed gardening, canning, doing yoga with her friends and zooming around her property in her Gator. She loved her cats. hummingbirds and horses. She volunteered her time doing equine therapy for children with special needs. Every day she listened to Tom Sullivan on her transistor radio while having a cup of percolated coffee and making out her ‘to do’ list for her friends: ranch hand Ignacio and housekeeper Claudia. She loved talking politics and was fiercely independent and sharp as a tack until her death. She was loved and called auntie by her many nieces and nephews and their children with whom she always kept in touch. She was a generous and loving person who was a lot of fun to be with. Her family, friends and neighbors will miss her dearly.
Services and a Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701 Marysville Blvd, Sacramento. Donations can be made in her honor to Ride to Walk at https://www.ridetowalk.org.
