Genevieve Helen Best's Obituary
Genevieve (Gen) Best
Born on June 1, 1913, Helen Genevieve (Gen) Best began her journey to heaven from Roseville, CA on June 12, 2014, at the age of 101. She was born in Woodland, CA to Delbert Hall and Margaret Brannigan, where she attended grade school before moving to Rio Linda, CA in 1942. Mom later graduated from Sacramento High School in 1932 and shortly thereafter married Clarence David (Babe) Best in 1934. They built their home in Rio Linda in 1938 and had two sons, Robert Powell Best and Thomas David Best. She resided in that home for over 60 years, loved gardening, crossword puzzles, her many friends, and especially family gatherings. She was also a member of the Rio Linda Felions. Mom was preceded in death by her husband in 1984 and her son Robert in 2008. She was also preceded in death by her brother Graydon hall (Betty) in 1979; her sister Ardell Law (Bud) in 1994; and her sister Margaret Davis (Emmett) in 2007. She leaves behind her son Thomas (Marian) who live in Granite Bay, CA; a brother, Stuart Hall (Dolores) who reside in Oregon; two grandsons; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was descended from an early CA pioneering family. Her great grandfather, Colonel John Thomas Hall, fought in the Mexican-American War. He then traveled to CA, arriving in 1847. Over the following three years his wife Eliza (Jefferson) and their eight children, including mom’s grandfather Thomas Hall migrated to CA from Wisconsin — most of whom settled in Yolo County. Colonel Hall was very active in local politics. Having lost his bid for mayor of Sacramento in1854 by three percentage points, he ran for and became a city councilman for several years.
She will be missed, stay in our hearts forever and remembered for her kind nature and “Genisms” which will always bring smiles and laughter. No funeral is planned. She will be inurned at Sunset Lawn. A family memorial will be held later this month.
The family would like to especially thank the Sebastian Hills Care Home (Ed, Nina, Valentina and Yelena) for the excellent care and kindness they gave our mother the past 7+ years. We appreciate all they did for her and us.
