Gerald Francis Satterfield's Obituary
On Saturday July 7, 2012 at 4:10pm Gerald Fancis Satterfield peacefully left us. He was surrounded by family and loved ones at home. He loved to celebrate and socialize to the final days of his life. Gerald was born in Orange Texas, October 10th 1926. He was the 9th of eleven children born to Alice and Joseph Satterfield. In Houston, Texas with his parents and siblings he spent his adolescent years. Gerald graduated June 1944 from George Washington Carver High School in Houston, Texas. Following graduation he came to California and worked in the Marin County shipyard as a stage rigger. March 1945 he was drafted in the army, Combat Engineer Corp., where he served 2 years and learned how to play pool. His unit was one of the last all black units before the armed forces became intergrated.While residing in Stockton, CA he met and married Charlsa Craft in December 19, 1948. To this union were born six children; Anthony Francis, Donnell Gordon, Mary Ellen, Yvonne Denise, Gerald Francis II and Alice (Candy). Gerald worked as a painting supervisor for the City of Oakland and retired after 20 years of service in 1988. Through the years Gerald had remained an avid hunter and fisherman. He earned the title “King of the pool table & dominos” He was also a gourmet cook and a gardener.The “G-man” also known as Jimmy Foxx lived fifteen years in Cool, CA where he enjoyed the country life with Charlsa and his devoted pets Reggie and Camero. There he grew a beautiful organic vegetable garden.Gerald was preceeded in death by his parents: Joseph Satterfield and Alice Satterfield; his brothers: Horace, Floyd, Elmo, William, Stanley and Elliott; his sisters: Alice, Vera, Dorothy and Jacqueline. Gerald was the last in his generation. Gerald Satterfield is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Charlsa; Three sons-Anthony and his wife Mary, Donnell and his wife Rose and Jerry II; Three daughters-Mary Ellen, Yvonne and her husband Donnie Terry and Alice (Candy); Eleven grandchildren-Michelle, Jason, LeMar, Ivan, Dominic (Nico), Andre, Denisea, Donnie II, Ebony, Chelsea and Kalani; Ten great grandchildren-Trenton, Kaytline, Ariel, Drevon, Donnie III, Maitei, Jayda, Sirr Winston, Aisja and Tai; and many neices, nephews and friends.On behalf of the family, we wish to express our gratitude for your many kindnesses; as evidenced in thought and deed, and for your attendance at this service.Memorial & Repass will be: July 22, 2012- Sunday at 1:00 P.M.
