Georgia L. (Helmer) Timmerman
9-11-1931 to 7-23-2015
On Saturday morning, 7-18-2015, Georgia had a massive stroke while she was being treated at a care facility for an infection of her leg and foot. She was moved to Kaiser at Morse Ave. where she spent her remaining days surrounded by family members until she succumbed to death and went on to heaven to be with the many family members who proceeded her. Her walk on this earth ended at 8:00am, Thursday, July 23, 2015.
Georgia, known as Georgie by family members and close friends was born in Colusa California on September 11, 1931. She was the forth child in 12 that her Mother and Father had together. She also had 6 half siblings that her father had from prior marriages. So with 18 kids total, in a different time they could have had their own TV show. From the stories told by family members over the years, that would have been quite a show. They lived primarily in Northern California and her parents worked hard at whatever jobs they could find to support their growing family. Most all of the kids worked in the orchards at one time or another near Marysville and Yuba City to help support the family. After the untimely death of her father, Georgia married young and had her first child at the age of 16 in 1948. She and her first husband, Claude M. Riddle, lived in the Garden Land and Northgate area of Sacramento from 1948 to 1960. During this time they had 3 more children. After divorcing her first husband, Georgia married Alfred Timmerman and they had one child together. They settled in the Rio Linda area in 1960 where Alfred, known as Tim by everyone, was in the Air Force and stationed at McClellan AFB. When their young daughter was only 6 months old, tragedy hit the family when Tim died in a vehicle accident. Georgia was left to raise her 5 children alone. Many years later she met her final partner in life, Edgar Fox, and spent 46 years with him until his passing in July 2014. Georgia worked hard most of her life. She loved to fish, go camping and spend time with family and friends. She came from a very musical family, most of the kids could play guitar and sing. Her Brother Victor Helmer was a noted celebrity in the Sacramento Country Music Community. Georgia also was involved in the Ladies Auxillary at the local American Legion Hall, she received her pin for 50 years of membership a couple years ago.
Georgia is survived by her sister Eleanor Ward; Sister-in-Laws, Mary Helmer, Erma Helmer, Carol Helmer, Bernice Helmer, Gayle Helmer, Arlis Helmer, Wanda Helmer and Imogene Engle. Brother-in-Law John Popovich; Her five children Claudia Smith, Barbara Gilbert, Richard Riddle, Elizabeth Whiteford and Ginger Lambert.Son-in-Laws, Donald Smith and James Whiteford.
Grandchildren; Pamela Smith, Donald Smith, William Gilbert, Daniel Gullickson, AmandaTrembly, Michael Crespo, Richard Crespo, Joey Whiteford, Kenny Whiteford, Erin Whiteford and Jennifer Friend. Along with 16 Great Grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and numerous dear friends. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Georgia on Sunday August 23, 2015 at 2:00 in The American Legion Post 521 located at 6700 8th Street, Rio Linda, CA 95673
