Evalyn Marie Nunn's Obituary
Evalyn "Evie" Waltz was born February 10, 1923 in Southern California. She met her future husband Elbert "Al" Nunn when she was 13 and he was 15, growing up in the same neighborhood together. Elbert fell in love with Evie because she was cheerful and happy, even though she had not had an ideal childhood. To quote from Grandpa Al's biography, "they both knew that happiness is a choice." Al and Evie married on June 7, 1942 while Al was still on active duty during World War II. The dashing story of how they eloped overnight to marry in Las Vegas is still a favorite family story today. In these difficult times, she began the life that led her to becoming our beloved Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma. Grandma Evie had high ethics, high standards, and was fully committed. She worked hard personally and professionally, working full-time at a bank while caring for her young family. She had a garden and grew everything from green peas to beautiful sweet pea flowers. Evie loved her family above all else and made sure they were safe and had lovely things. She wanted only the best for her loved ones. Grandma Evie always thought of her 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren and encouraged us to have wonderful lives. She loved to dance, starting with dancing to the Glen Miller Band live in Los Angeles (the most popular band during that time), then square dancing and ballroom dancing with husband Al, then tap-dance performances as a senior citizen. She came from very little and built a life centered around her husband, family, and love. Grandma Evie and Grandpa Al were together 83 years and married 77 years. We were blessed to be her family and have her in our lives.
