Ethel Mae Martin's Obituary
My name is Ethel Mae Hampton Martin, and here is a glimpse into my life. I made my debut on March 27, 1931 in Lavaca, Alabama to Fred and Willie G. Hampton. I grew up in Butler, Alabama and attended Choctaw County Public School and continued my education at Alabama Branch Mobile County. My Christian journey began at Morning Star Baptist Church in Butler, Alabama and continued with Macedonia Baptist Church, Sacramento, CA. I loved my Pastor and Church family, I was truly Blessed in God's Word and the music ministry. I was a member of the Pastor Support Group.
I was honored to be married to my soul mate, the late Dan Martin. Our union gave me a wonderful stepson, Daniel. My primary role was homemaker however, I did manage a cafe for many years and worked at Kaiser Hospital in Sacramento.
I treasured my family, I believe I was a very loving and giving sister, and the second mother to my two youngest siblings. I was the official aunt of all the Sconce Avenue children. I enjoyed sharing meals. My passion was my gardening, especially my seventeen varieties of roses in my front yard. I cherished my time with my posse (the girls).
I moved to Capitol Heights, Maryland to live with my sister because of illness, my stay was brief because the Lord called me home on April 30, 2013.
I leave to savor good memories, my stepson Daniel E. Martin, six sisters, Irene turner, Lenore Ray, Lillie (Richard) Goins, Shirley Outlaw, Ollie Hampton and Elizabeth Knight, one brother, Julius Hampton, two adopted sisters, Jackie Brown and Roslyn Ezell, fifteen devoted nieces and nephews. My Close friends, Mova, Martha, Rachael, Darlean, Mother Ella, Carl, Robert and William. My Sconce Avenue children, the Daniels, Varnados, Carsons, Dexters, Jones and many more neighbors family and friends.
