Esther Marie Robinson's Obituary
It is our tearful duty to announce that our mother, Esther Marie Robinson, age 96, died in her sleep on April 15, 2017 at Auburn, California. Born as Esther M. Childers to farmers Dan A. Childers and Retta Mast, Esther outlived her one sister, Dora Bender, and four brothers: Edward, Harold, Clarence and Verl Lee Childers. Survivors include her son, George J. Robinson of Auburn, CA, daughters Peggy M. Mackey of Rio Linda, CA, and Carol Ann Robinson-Ammoms (Richard) of Sparks, NV. Five weeks ago, Esther was the matriarch of five generations with the birth of her first great-great grandaughter. Now, there are only four generations including 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Esther came to California from her December 4, 1920 Emporia, Kansas birthplace to marry our late father, Omer J. Robinson, on July 26, 1941. An ardent homemaker, she raised her family at Rio Linda, CA and lived there for over 64 years before moving to the Atrium of Carmichael for the next 10 years. Her last year was made comfortable and memorable by the excellent staff of Sierra Ridge Memory Care, Auburn, CA.
While she and retired husband Omer loved to travel the country, including several trips to Alaska, the couple quickly adapted to the “snow bird” way of life. When not traveling, she loved to garden and was a master maker of clothes. Creating most of the clothes she wore, the sewing machine was her best friend. Always volunteering for Well Baby clinics and Christmas Basket drives, Esther was noted by many for her farm-style cooking. Loving her role as a 4-H leader, many young men have survived because of her famous 4-H Cooking for Boys Course. A true homemaker, she was a model for her family and always set the example for what was fair, good, patriotic, and decent. No child could have ever picked a better Mother!
Arrangements are being handled by Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701 Marysville Blvd., Sacramento, CA (916-922-5833). Visitation will be on Monday, April 24, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Memorial services will begin at 10:00 on April 25, 2017 followed with burial and a reception.
