Ella Brown's Obituary
Ella Brown born on 1/23/49 the multitalented woman , Nicknamed by her siblings as “Bubbles” (because of her beautiful full lips) the child of Mack Henry and Rosie Lee Brown, died on 12/11/23 of Leukemia, she was the matriarch and the woman of so many talents. Her love was unwavering. If she loved you as a person you would know because she invested her time and her love into everyone she loved. Her talents first and foremost was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she could SANG not just SING, she and her siblings believe it or not had a singing group and they were AMAZING singers, and as little kids we were all mesmerized by all of their talents every weekend and holiday. She was an ARTIST many people do not know that she knew how to PAINT and DRAW REALISM ART. She knew how to knit, and she planned and cooked for every holiday, birthday and all special occasions, CHRISTMAS WAS HER FAVORITE. She also worked at Rainbow Diner where she sharpened her cooking skills. Sharpened; meaning she already learned to cook from her mother Madear, but she learned a lot from working in “that restaurant” per her words. She even created a Rap Song for the restaurant’s commercial called “mom’s rainbow diner”. Which (Her son BOBBY & daughter ERICA helped her write and perfect) THE COMMERCIAL WAS VERY POPULAR ON THE CABLE NETWORK “SOUL BEAT” in the Bay Area , but, Everyone loved her cooking. I mean Everyone!, she even opened her own popular restaurant called “Brown’s Derby”. On McArthur in Oakland, Ca. She provided catering and provided many baked goods around Oakland & Sacramento Ca. She took in a lot of people and their children and gave them a place to live until they were able to get on their feet and she never asked for a thank you. She loved shopping at Goodwill stores what she called the “THE GOODIE STORE”. They knew her by name.
Ella Brown married Tommie Powell and they had 4 children, that she is survived by: Latonia Powell, Tommie Powell, Bobby Powell, and Erica Powell. GRANDCHILDREN: Mishayla Robertson, Dwont’e Haywood, Samona Mosley, Christopher Walker, Toiann Powell, Tianna Powell, Thomas Powell, Precious Powell, Aushara Powell and Bobby Powell , GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Mai & Mai’a Williams, Zyla “Boog” Haywood, Eve Walker, Melanie and Jared. SISTERS: Mary “May” Lopez, Lucinda “Cindy” Crummy, Linda Brown and Lovie Brown, BROTHERS: William Brown and Joseph Brown and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by: Parents: Mack & Rosie Brown. Husband: Charles Johnson. Sister: Rose Brown. Brothers: James “Jay” Brown, Johnny Brown, Clarence Brown, Charles “Charlie” Brown, Roy Brown, Bo Brown, and Henry Brown,
