Edward J Samario's Obituary
Edward Samario of Sacramento, California
Edward Samario, died on Sunday September 24th, 2017, at home, of natural causes at 91 years of age. He was born November 27, 1925 in Los Angeles CA. He traveled far from a childhood marked by loss and hardship, and he lived a full life.
Edward was the eldest of four children born to Pablo and Guadalupe Sosa Samario. His mother died when Edward was seven, and he and his siblings were sent to live with his great-aunts.
In 1943, following graduation from Theodore Roosevelt High School, Edward enlisted in the Army Air Corp. That same year, he met his future wife, Florence Martinez, at a Thanksgiving Day dance at a San Antonio hotel, not far the airfield where he trained as a flight navigator.
The war ended before Edward could see action and the GI Bill enabled Edward to attend Notre Dame. Upon graduation he married Florence and together they set off for MIT, where Edward was a graduate student in Electrical Engineering. His son Edward and daughter Chris were both born in Cambridge Massachusetts. Shortly after Edward earned his Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, he accepted a job offer from a firm in California, where the remainder of the family was born: Irene, Donna, Anita, Thomas, Steven and Sylvia.
Edward worked in the aerospace industry throughout his career, and spent his last 25 years at Lockheed in Sunnyvale, where he retired in 1990. Edward worked hard and took pride in his career, working on guidance systems for intercontinental ballistic missiles. In his spare time Edward liked to keep active with photography, skiing, tennis, and gardening.
In retirement Edward and Florence traveled to Hawaii, the Middle East, and points in-between. He loved to read and garden, and together he and Florence enjoyed eating out and ballroom dancing.
In 2007, his wife of 47 years, died unexpectedly following complications of heart surgery. Tragedy would strike again hours later, when his eldest son, Edward, died at home following a long illness.
Edward is survived by his daughter-in-law Florita Sheppard of Austin Texas, daughter Chris and her husband Mo of Lehi Utah, daughter Irene and her husband David of Redondo Beach California, daughter Donna and her husband Eric of Oakland California, daughters Anita and Sylvia of Sacramento California, and son Steve and his wife Emily, of Shoreline Washington. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Stephanie and her husband Josh and their child Jaxon, as well as Michael, Joe, Sarah, Elena, Nick and Gabe.
Funeral services for Edward will be graveside on Saturday, October 21 from 11:00 to 12:00 PM. Edward will be laid to rest at the Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes in Sacramento, California.
