Edgar Aaron Smith's Obituary
Edgar A Smith Jr. was born on August 23, 1935 the 1st of five children to the late Edgar A. Smith Sr. and Jessie Smith in Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia. He graduated from Blaine Elementary School, Vaux Jr. High and Northeast High School. He was raised in a Christian home, therefore he learned to love God unconditionally, and received Christ at an early age, he also learned from his earthly father to respect women and his elders. Upon graduating from high school Edgar joined the Unites States Air Force and had the opportunity to serve his country in several states as well as being stationed in Canada, Viet Nam and Spain. In 1956 he married Jeanette Luff, and as a result of that union five children were born. In 1971 he was sent to McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California which was his last military duty station. He retired from McClellan in 1974 as a Technical Sergeant, after serving his country faithfully for 20 years. When he left the military he went to work for the County of Sacramento and retired again after working an additional 25 years. He was a hard working man, dedicated employee and loved his job.
In 1976 Edgar remarried and became the stepdad to four children. Then in 1993 he married for a third time to Elaine Kelly and proudly accepted into his big heart an additional four stepchildren plus an honorary son. During his years of marriages he was a follower of Christ, loving husband, nurturing caring father, and frien to many. He loved all his children and grand’s with such a passion that you never heard him refer to anyone as “step child”. Edgar was a member of “Thre order of the Masons” in Sacramento, CA and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4647 in Antelope, CA. His joy was to go camping and traveling with the love of his life “Elaine”, and in every state that he lived during his lifetime he would join a bowling league. Yes, you guessed it “Bowling” was another of his great joys.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, his son Edgar A. Smith III, son-in-law Rick Smith, sister Marlene Smith, wife Verna Smith, stepson Emil Bosick, stepdaughter Kay Swartz and granddaughter Olivia Bosick.
His memory will be greatly cherished by his devoted wife Elaine; his four children and two son-in-laws; Rochelle Norris, Elizabeth Smith, Cheryl Brown (Kelvin), Kathryn Wright (Allen), siblings; Gloria Smith, Clark Smith and Madeline McCulough (Barnett), seven step children; Deborah Bosick, Billy Bosick, Kim Kelly-Davis (Lonnie), Donald L.
